An outstanding job opportunity for a Director of Finance to join the University of Wolverhampton

Your new company

The University of Wolverhampton holds a distinctive place within the higher education sector, and is one of the most successful modern universities, delivering excellence in teaching and research, widening access and business engagement. It has impressive state of the art facilities including the new Cyber Quarter at Skylon Park, and the £100m Springfield campus.

As the 'University of Opportunity' for staff and students, they are committed to delivering positive change for students, staff, and business as well as the diverse regional communities they serve. The University of Wolverhampton is an integral part of economic growth and social change within the West Midlands and beyond and a key employer in the local area.

Your new role

The position of Director of Finance is a newly created role, which will act as a catalyst for change and transformation across the finance function. Reporting into the Chief Financial Officer, you will lead the delivery and development of a large University Finance Team ensuring it delivers best in class service in line with the University’s strategic objective of being the best run university in the UK.
The Director of Finance will be the principal adviser to both the CFO and University Executive on financial strategy and the University planning process, delivering the vision to be a highly valued, collaborative partner that delivers the financial expertise, analysis and insight that enables the University to be both educationally and financially sustainable. You will also play a crucial role in ensuring the control environment is well-designed, consistent with University strategy, widely understood and effectively delivered.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role you will need to be a qualified accountant who has operated in a similar role, leading and developing a large team in a complex organisation. Higher education is not essential as the interpersonal and cultural fit are as important as the technical skills. The University and CFO are seeking a confident leader with energy, drive, commitment and integrity.

What you'll get in return

Alongside a competitive salary, the benefits package includes a generous defined pension scheme and holiday entitlement (minimum 42 days pa). The role is predominantly office based, although home working will be supported, and the University operates several family-friendly policies to support their employees in achieving a work-life balance.
A key driver for the successful candidate should be the opportunity to own and define this newly created role and to support the CFO to deliver a best-in-class service and finance function.
