Pension Officer 22.5 hours

Your new company

Hays are working with a Nottingham-based client who are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented pension/ payroll assistant to join their team. You will work closely with Academy Leaders and the HR team to ensure that any pension changes are processed in a timely and accurate way. Additionally, you will liaise with their academy leaders and payroll bureau to ensure staff are enroled accurately.

Your new role

  • Process starter and leaver pension forms for the end-to-end payroll cycle in collaboration with the payroll bureau.
  • Process contract variation forms and leavers.
  • Manage the payroll/pensions inbox, responding to employees in a timely and professional manner.
  • Liaise with Teachers and Local Government pension schemes, administering returns and completed forms as appropriate, and resolving any queries.
  • Upload weekly and monthly pension reports.
  • Handle enquiries from employees, management, and external contacts.
  • Maintain up-to-date and comprehensive guidance notes on pension procedures.
  • Assist auditors as required.
  • Provide reports as needed.
  • Support the overall ethos of the Trust and comply with Trust policies and procedures

What you'll need to succeed

  • GCSE English and Maths at a minimum grade of C or equivalent.
  • Experience in a payroll and pension role in the education sector.
  • Recent experience of administering a large computerised payroll.
  • Experience of delivering a high-quality, responsive, and supportive pension administrative service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well-developed IT skills, including the use of internal systems for inputting and reporting, MS Word and Excel to an advanced level, databases, mail merge, and email.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of payroll systems, taxation, National Insurance, and pension administration.
  • Good understanding of accounting principles and their application to payroll and pensions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write formal reports and letters to a high standard.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and take effective action to deal with these.
  • The ability to work on his own initiative and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, excellent time management, and organisation
