Purchasing Manager

Your new company

Your new role would see you apart of the manufacturing sector which has been established since 1938. Engineer metals for enhancing the wear life and operating performance of engineered components within all engineering sectors. Their products and services enhance customer productivity, through prolonging the wear life of components. Striving to develop value-added solutions that help shape the future through a dedicated talented team, technical expertise and high-tech quality products.
A key role within the organisation. You'll be responsible for the purchasing strategy, policy and processes. Sourcing, negotiating and buying of materials and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements whilst ensuring continuity of supply.

Your new role

  • Ensure that purchasing policies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets, which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market

  • Create and review opportunities to implement best practice purchasing policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance and deliver best value and business savings

  • Evaluate the challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities

  • Provide management reports, key performance data and monitor cost savings. Drive Cost Improvement opportunities through to completion.

  • Manage relationships with suppliers. This is to include selecting, rationalising and developing new suppliers.

  • Negotiate and manage contract terms with suppliers to ensure value for money, quality standards and delivery terms with technical and operational input from stakeholders and colleagues

  • Review and negotiate existing agreements to optimise commercial terms

  • Assess tenders from potential suppliers. Work with suppliers and have a process in place to measure effective performance, quality and compliance. Measure against KPI’s e,g, Supplier performance (OTIF)

  • Ensure parts are sourced in full and aligned to production schedules (OTIF) and customer requirements

  • Ensure the purchasing cycle is concluded by managing Goods Inbound. Ensuring the timely booking of Goods Received Notes. Effective and proactive monitoring of late open Purchase Order lines.

  • Set departmental objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports

  • Manage, coach and develop the purchasing team to ensure that they meet agreed objectives; which deliver best practice results, added value and continuous improvements Purchasing Manager Reviewed: Sep 24

  • Report on achievement of targets and identify any actions required

  • Communicate with stakeholders about the impact of market change and potential effects on supply. Recommend solutions without compromising quality or service while optimising cost

  • Proactively lead and contribute to creating a good team atmosphere.

  • Embraces personal challenge in a changing environment. Challenge the Status Quo


What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in ERP system is essential.

  • Strong numeracy, problem-solving and analytical skills are essential.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills

  • Proven management skills with the ability to optimise team performance

  • Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders and suppliers

  • Results orientated with the ability to plan and deliver against project deadlines


  • Relevant business/commercial or manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in a purchasing management role, preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Member of The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS)
  • Ability to add value, reduce costs and make business improvements
  • Contract management and supplier experience


What you'll get in return

  • Hours of work are Monday to Thursday 8.00 -16.30 and Friday 8.00 to 14.30, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break per day. 38 hours per week.
  • Holidays are offered at 25 days per annum, plus Bank Holidays.
  • Company pension contributions are available at 5% and 4% employee contribution.
