Trainee Accountant, Co. Down, Perm, Training contract/study support

Your new company
This leading Mid-Tier firm of Chartered Accountants is now recruiting for a Trainee Accountant. You will be joining a company where they have seen growth in both their staffing and client base in recent years.

Your new role
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
• Preparing and processing payroll for clients, including calculating and processing taxes and other deductions, and preparing and distributing payslips.
• Preparing and submitting VAT returns on behalf of clients, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
• Preparing financial statements, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for clients.
• Assisting with tax compliance, including preparing tax returns, calculating tax liabilities, and liaising with tax authorities as required.
• Communicating with clients on a regular basis to provide updates on their financial status and answer any questions they may have.
• Utilising accounting software such as Xero or Sage to process client data and reports.
• Providing general administrative support to the accountancy practice as required.
• Providing clients with an excellent level of service and ensuring all work is completed efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with company and industry regulations.
• Working closely with all members of the team to ensure your continual development.
• Contributing to the preparation of year end and management accounts for sole traders, partnership, and limited companies
• Supporting the preparation of tax computations and returns for individuals and companies using tax software and HMRC online software.• Running reports from payroll software for other team members when required when required.
• VAT returns via MTD for VAT, including EC sales and Interstat accounts.

What you'll need to succeed
Essential Qualifications
Hold a relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Alternatively, be part-qualified in ACCA, ACA, or similar professional accountancy qualifications.
Essential Experience
• Demonstrate strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
• Proven ability to process and interpret financial data accurately.
• Competence in using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
• A proactive and dedicated approach to work, with a commitment to completing the ACCA qualification.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and other stakeholders.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
Desirable Experience
• Prior experience in a professional accounting environment or relevant internships.
• Knowledge of audit, tax, or financial reporting.
• Experience with cloud-based accounting systems or specialised software.
• Knowledge of payroll systems and statutory requirements.
• Teamwork and collaboration experience.
• Problem-solving ability and a client-focused mindset.
