The Department
The Trade and Investment team leads on global promotion of the UK's financial and professional services sector. Our programme of work facilitates two-way trade and investment between the UK and priority international markets which leads to jobs and growth in the UK. We do this by, setting out the UK's attractiveness offer to investors and global business, curating engagement programmes for the Lord Mayor and Policy Chairman across the year and leading a focused set of campaigns and initiatives that attracts and retains foreign investment in the UK.

Role Purpose

The Head will lead the creation of outcome-first market strategies, project plans collateral and engagement and quality assure implementation, building market and commercial expertise within the team as relevant to trade and investment between the UK and Advanced Markets.
The Head will drive trade and investment outcomes within and across Advanced Markets and be responsible for achieving outcomes arising from projects, inbound and outbound engagement in and across those markets and more importantly, the team and their outcomes.
The Advanced Markets currently includes Europe, US, Japan, Canada, Australia and Singapore, as well as engagement with the UK regions and nations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide line management for the Advisors and Senior Advisors in Advanced Markets and UK Nations and Regions
  • Oversee and quality assure the development and delivery of the strategic engagement with UK Partners and Advanced Markets (AM)
  • Lead the development of new projects, campaigns and initiatives and business planning for the Advanced Markets Team and support, Assistant Director to identify work programmes and priorities over multi years using commercial and market expertise.
  • Ensure the individuals (Advanced Market Advisers) with the team are developing and effectively managing a robust pipeline of trade and investment leads and key accounts.
  • Ensure the Advanced Market Advisers are producing relevant and engaging promotional materials aligned with Marketing and Communications colleagues.
  • Lead the development of briefings on trade promotion and policy issues

Technical skills and expertise:

  • An extensive knowledge of key opportunities, issues and challenges within trade and investment in the financial and professional services sector would be advantageous.
  • Considerable ability to promote and enhance work done
  • Strong interpersonal skills and political know-how that inspire confidence, engagement, and collaboration across senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead on and manage the development of corporate strategies.
  • A strategic and creative thinker with strong analytical and intellectual skills.
  • The ability to familiarise yourself with key issues quickly and confidently and to analyse and communicate complex information and ideas in a simple and accessible way
  • Energetic, determined and tenacious, with the drive to ensure the achievement of financial and performance-related targets within a performance management culture
  • Strong methodical, numeracy and digital skills, with an attention to detail and accuracy, and a structured approach to time and project management.

Experience Required:

  • Significant experience in a senior management role.
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and managing staff, projects and budgets
  • Significant experience of leading in developing partnerships at senior level
    Very strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to engage with a range of senior stakeholders nationally and in international markets on financial and professional services issues
  • Direct experience of working at an influential level with some of the issues and challenges associated with trade and investment both domestically and internationally
    Significant experience of developing and implementing strategy, reporting on business plans & preparing and monitoring budgets in a target-orientated culture
  • Demonstrable experience working in collaborative leadership, networking and building relationships with the business and government sectors
  • Demonstrable experience of policy influencing/advocacy and development at a senior level
Although this is the job description for a an experienced investment and trade professional, the client is in fact looking for someone with leadership experience to support the professionals in their development and influencing new strategies and projects within the team.
The right candidate for this exciting role; will have significant leadership and experience managing a team of 5 people.
