Ecologist, £30,000 - £60,000 (DOE), Manchester, East Midlands, Devon

Your new company

Our client is an environmental consultancy who look to provide a wide range of ecological services across the UK. Working on a variety of projects, with regular clients across the residential and commercial sectors.


They are looking for ecologists at various skill levels across their offices based in Manchester, West Devon and the East Midlands.


Your new role

  • Mentor and manage junior ecologists.
  • Client & project management.
  • Undertake ecological surveys and assessments, including UKHab and protected species surveys, ecological impact assessments etc.
  • Provide ecological advice and support to clients and across internal teams.
  • Manage and deliver ecological projects, including the production of technical reports and ecological management plans.
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and best practice guidelines.


What you'll need to succeed

  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, sometimes in remote locations, staying away when required and sometimes working unsociable hours.
  • The ability to plan/deliver basic habitat and protected species surveys / reports (e.g. PEA, UK Habs, BNG assessments, bats, Badger, Water Vole, etc.).
  • Full UK driving licence and use of a car.
  • Good communication skills, both in-house and with clients.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Experience preparing fee proposals.
  • Experience undertaking risk assessments.
  • Experience managing simple projects.
  • Be able to manage and analyse data.
  • Experience using GIS Mapping.
Desirable

  • Be able to mentor Junior Ecologists/Ecologists.
  • To allocate projects to staff (meeting every 1–2 weeks to review workload and resourcing).
  • Manage complex projects.
  • Understand the financial needs of the company.
  • Prepare fee proposals/tenders.
  • Undertake complex risk assessments.
