This well-established and well-known public sector organisation is now looking for a Payroll Officer on a full-time permanent basis. You will support the Finance Department and report in to the Head Of Finance.
Your new role
This post holder will be required to assist in the maintenance of all finance systems. However, their main duties will focus on core payroll.

This well-established and well-known public sector organisation is now looking for a Payroll Officer on a full-time permanent basis. You will support the Finance Department and report in to the Head Of Finance.
Your new role
This post holder will be required to assist in the maintenance of all finance systems. However, their main duties will focus on core payroll.
- Process new employees, leavers, transfers, promotions, sickness, maternity and other absences on the school payroll system.
- Liaise with the HR department to collect all relevant information to complete the monthly payroll, using Sage HR reports
- You will be responsible for the processing of monthly payroll, including correct calculation of sickness benefit, pension, tax, AVCs, SMP, SSP etc.
- Maintenance of sickness records and responsible for checking information from officers, correct input and calculation of overtime, bonus and other non-standard payments.
What you'll need to succeed
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience of operating / managing a computerised payroll system
- GCSE Maths & English at Grade C or above, or equivalent
- Working knowledge of accounting principles
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate financial records with experience of effectively analysing complex data
- Excellent organisational and time management skills as demonstrated by the ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate work
- Ability to use sound judgement within established guidelines
- Dynamic problem-solving skills
- Competent IT skills, particularly in the use of spreadsheets
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Further accounting or payroll qualification
- Previous experience of using the Pegasus Opera system
- Previous experience of public sector payroll and pensions
