Assistant Financial Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Financial Accountant to join a dynamic finance team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial systems and processes, providing essential tools and management information to drive operational and financial efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in producing monthly management accounts, aiming for submission by working day 6.
  • Performing month-end tasks, including balance sheet reviews and necessary adjustments.
  • Manage the Credit Control Timetable and assist the Customer Services Team with sales order queries.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Purchase Ledger functions to provide cover during absences and busy periods.
  • Submit weekly and monthly ledger updates to the invoice discounting facility.
  • Maintain the Purchase Accruals report and assess its suitability for supporting monthly overhead provisions.
  • Manage the bank reconciliation process for all bank accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure accuracy in stock adjustments and supplier pricing.
  • Work with the Workshop Supervisor to ensure accurate accounting for monthly production.
  • Utilise analytics software to provide useful stock and customer analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and audit obligations, including VAT Returns and Fixed Asset Register management.
  • Assist with ad-hoc information requests.
Measures of Success:
  • Achievement of team KPIs such as Debtor Days, Creditor Days, and Working Capital.
  • Timely submission of Management Accounts and VAT Returns.
  • Cross-functional collaboration within the Finance and Operations Teams.

Person Specification:
Skills:
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Excel and analytical skills.
  • Attention to detail and a logical approach.
Knowledge:
  • Experience of performing reconciliations and sound accounting knowledge, including VAT reporting.
  • Relevant experience within a manufacturing environment is advantageous.
Qualifications:
  • AAT or above.
  • A Level/Degree Level Qualification is desirable.
Experience:
  • At least 3 years of experience working within a finance team.
Attitude:
  • Positive, approachable, forward-thinking, and a team player.
