Buyer Job - Regional House Builder £45,000 - £55,000 Salary + Package Derby

My client is looking to recruit an experienced buyer to support their continued growth by maximising profits through effective management of the supply chain in accordance with the commercial procedures within the context of house building.

Your new role

The role of buyer is to provide an efficient and effective centralised and dynamic procurement service to regional operating teams to support the business plans, build delivery programmes, commercial objectives, budgets and future growth requirements.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing house builder, operating across the Midlands.

  • Provides an efficient and effective procurement service that ensures all operations and sites receive the necessary support and ensures that value is added by the buying team.
  • Ensuring the delivery of procurement services as related to new and existing developments, ensuring the optimal use of deals and associated discounts and service and effective control and compliance with the order approval process, material/product/plant specification, nominated suppliers, etc.
  • Work closely with the commercial teams to provide, monitor and control the bulk material budget information and expenditure for each site as per the commercial approval process.
  • Work closely with the technical departments to proactively ascertain key development information where required to ensure that buying activity and associated supplier deals efficiently meet the requirements of build programmes and development budgets.
  • Manage personal workload and priorities within the team to ensure effective oversight and control of bulk deals in line with due dates and site requisitions schedules aligned to agreed KPIs and build programmes.
  • Sufficient time is allocated to the monitoring and assisting in resolving supplier, delivery and invoice queries arising, and that the overall level of queries does not become unacceptable or counter-productive to the efficient operation of the wider buying function.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience in a previous Buying/Procurement function in the housing sector

  • Broad financial and commercial knowledge

  • Broad technical awareness, including a good understanding of current regulations that affect procurement, e.g. building regulations, NHBC etc.

  • Broad knowledge of the construction industry

  • Experienced in material scheduling and take-off.

  • Knowledge of the construction procurement supply chain at a national level across all main product categories

  • Pricing knowledge and preferably some experience in pricing negotiations with major suppliers

  • Ability to optimise the COINS operating system

  • Exceptional stakeholder management, with resilience and maturity to face challenges and delivery pressures
