Hays Senior Finance are delighted to be working in partnership with Plymouth Marjon University, to identify an Executive Director of Finance for a newly created position.
Marjon University is on a mission to end social inequity through life-changing teaching, learning, research and knowledge exchange. This organisation is determined to reach further and make a bigger social impact.
With an ambitious five-year roadmap in place, by 2030 Marjon will have grown their provision and continue to play a vital role in regional education and higher skills provision whilst also extending their reach internationally.
To achieve this ambition, they will require a flexible and adaptable workforce committed to collaboration, smart digitally enabled systems, rigorous financial operations and carefully prioritised strategic investments.
The Executive Director of Finance will play a pivotal role in this journey.
Responsibilities in the role include :
- Lead and manage the University's financial strategy, ensuring sustainability and optimal resource use.
- Oversee the budget-setting process, enabling forward planning and performance management.
- Manage the Finance and Procurement functions, driving continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Develop financial policies and strategies in collaboration with the executive leadership team.
- Produce annual accounts and financial regulatory returns, ensuring compliance.
- Provide expert financial advice and management information to senior leaders and the Board of Governors.
- Act as the executive lead for strategic risk, maintaining oversight of the institutional risk policy.
- Support new business opportunities through expert financial advice and management, including investment and tax guidance.
- Ensure strong relationships with internal and external auditors are maintained.
- Promote high levels of customer care, equality, diversity, and inclusion within the department.
What you'll need to succeed
- Prior experience of working in a senior financial position operating at executive level
- Fully qualified with either ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA
- Outstanding leadership and management skills
- Ability to operate at a strategic level whilst also staying “hands-on”
