Interim Cost and Reporting Accountant
Position: Interim Cost and Reporting Accountant Location: Barnstaple, Devon
Hybrid - 2 days work from home per week
Start: ASAP
Booking length: Up to 6 months in length Rate: Up to £300 per day

Hays are working with a manufacturing organisation in the Barnstaple area of Devon who are seeking a temporary cost accountant for a day rate booking, likely to last up to 6 months in length.

The client are looking for someone to start ASAP, and be able to commit to 3 days in the office per week.

For this position the client would ideally like qualified finance professionals. However, they will also consider QBE professionals.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Product Costing:
    • Analyse key product costing rates and provide recommendations.
    • Monitor key cost-reduction opportunities and manage under/over recoveries.
  2. Inventory Management:
    • Ensure accurate inventory valuation.
    • Collaborate with procurement to review inventory provisions and identify opportunities to reduce stock holdings.
  3. Audit Support:
    • Assist in completing audits within planned timescales, including work on RDEC and taxation.
  4. Management Accounts:
    • Understand financial numbers and drivers to provide meaningful commentary to local and group management.
  5. Mentoring and Coaching:
    • Mentor and coach team members to ensure they have the knowledge and skills for long-term success.
  6. Group Reporting:
    • Support group reporting requirements.
  7. Support to FD:
    • Provide information and support to the Finance Director as required.
  8. Budget Planning Process:
    • Work with the team to meet group deadlines and provide analysis on financial numbers.
  9. Systems Development:
    • Offer advice and suggestions to improve current templates, processes, and systems.
  10. Ad-hoc Tasks:
    • Handle miscellaneous tasks such as rolling forward templates.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in product costing and inventory management.
  • Knowledge of audit processes and taxation.
  • Ability to understand and interpret management accounts.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Proficiency in group reporting and supporting senior management.
  • Familiarity with budget planning and financial analysis.
  • Capability to suggest improvements in systems and processes.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety and Environmental legislation.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection policies.
