Procurement Manager | North Yorkshire
Here at Hays, we are working with a national environmental and waste management company for the recruitment of a Procurement Manager on a permanent basis, this is a full-time role based at their site in North Yorkshire.
The Procurement Manager is responsible for managing procurement activities at the assignment North Yorkshire site, ensuring alignment with the procurement strategy while optimising costs, reducing risks, and improving supplier performance. This role covers both routine site procurement and project-based procurement, working closely with stakeholders to secure high-value, high-risk procurement and ensure compliance with company’s policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Site & Operational Procurement: Manage all third-party procurement spend at the assigned site. Build strong relationships with Account Directors, Plant Operations, and Maintenance Managers to support operational and capital procurement. Ensure procurement policies and processes are followed, minimising risks and ensuring cost-effectiveness. Oversee procurement for maintenance and engineering projects, including shutdowns and capital investments.
- Project Procurement & Strategic Sourcing: Support multi-million-pound procurement categories across sites. Conduct tendering, supplier selection, contract negotiation, and implementation. Drive supply base consolidation and long-term value creation.
- Category Management Support: Work closely with Category Managers to ensure site-level procurement aligns with broader strategic sourcing goals. Contribute to managing key procurement categories such as engineering & technical procurement, non-engineering procurement, and site-specific services. Provide spend analysis and cost-saving initiatives.
- Stakeholder & Supplier Management: Ensure clear communication and alignment with site leadership and central procurement. Monitor and improve supplier performance, ensuring delivery quality and contract compliance. Mitigate supply chain risks and ensure SOX compliance and ethical procurement.
Experience & Qualifications for the role:
- Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience). CIPS qualification preferred. Additional training in contract law, supplier management, or project procurement is advantageous.
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing abilities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities. Ability to manage multiple procurement projects simultaneously.
- Experience in procurement within engineering, construction, waste, or energy sectors (desirable).
- Experience managing procurement for CAPEX projects and technical services.
- Demonstrated ability to optimise supplier contracts and drive cost savings.
- Experience working across multi-site procurement operations.
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and procurement compliance. Experience using SAP, SourceDogg, or other procurement platforms.
- Detail-oriented and analytical.
