Multi Academy Trust seeking Regional IT Manager to be responsible for academies in the Greater Manchester area

Your new company

This multi-academy trust has been established for over 10 years and has a strong presence in the Manchester, Merseyside, Yorkshire and Staffordshire areas. The trust has 40 academies across the region, consisting of schools that have converted, but also new schools which have been opened by the trust and there is further ambition to continue this growth. As a trust, they have been through a transformation from an IT perspective and technologies are well embedded into the organisation. However, they are always focusing on improving their IT infrastructure and looking at projects focused on cyber, cloud and other specialist areas. The central IT team consists of over 25 specialists who are focused on providing a high level of infrastructure support to individual schools, end users and the wider trust team. The trust has approached Hays seeking a Regional IT Manager for their Manchester hub, which consists of 10 academies, a mixture of primary and secondary schools and this role is an integral part of the IT leadership team for the trust.

Your new role

Reporting to the IT Operations Manager, the Regional Hub IT Manager will be responsible for the management of the trust's infrastructure and support services across the Greater Manchester area in these 10 academies. This role will therefore encompass operational leadership of the IT Engineers based on site in academies, as well as providing technical support for escalated issues and supporting the IT Operations Manager and wider technical team with the delivery of IT projects across the trust. The Greater Manchester Hub Manager will join the central IT leadership team, working closely with 2 other Regional IT Managers and a wider technical team, and you will therefore be fully supported upon joining the team. You will work closely with senior leadership in the individual academies around strategic planning and budgeting from an IT perspective, communicating upcoming projects and changes and how these will support in enhancing teaching and learning in the classroom. You will oversee the IT Engineers who are based on site in the individual academies, therefore taking responsibility for their performance and professional development, working closely with them to ensure their technical knowledge is continuously developed. As Regional IT Manager, you will also be responsible for change delivery in your designated region, which will involve supporting the onboarding of new academies, supporting change for individual academies and working closely with the IT Operations Manager around upcoming changes. This is an exciting role for an experienced leader from the education sector to move into a regional role with responsibility for multiple sites and working as part of a wider central IT team.

What you'll need to succeed

In order to be successful in securing this position, you will have experience of IT leadership in the education sector, ideally with multi-site experience and overseeing a team of technicians. You will have an understanding of how technology supports and enhances teaching and learning in the classroom, as well as a passion for working in the education sector. Strong communication skills and relationship-building skills will also be a key part of this role as you will be liaising with key stakeholders at a senior level in both individual academies and at the trust head office in Greater Manchester. Proven experience of project planning and project delivery will be key, as well as management experience.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will be paid a competitive salary of between £40,000 and £45,000 dependent on experience, as well as an attractive benefits package. This benefits package will include 31 days holiday (plus bank), a retention bonus of £1500, access to a car and cycle to work scheme and 30% retail discounts. The trust also offers huge support upon joining them, as well as continuous professional development.
