Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a specialist SEND school in Chester that supports pupils from EYFS - KS4 with a diagnosis of ASD (autistic spectrum disorders), non-verbal and learning disabilities, as they are looking to recruit motivated and reliable teaching assistants for full-time temporary contracts. This school is located in the heart of Chester city centre and does not have parking.


Your new role

As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be supporting pupils with a mixed diagnosis of ASD, non-verbal and learning disabilities on a 1:1 and small group basis. All classes within this school are extremely small, with the largest class consisting of 7 pupils, with at least 1 teacher and 3 teaching assistants to support. As you will be supporting pupils with ASD, you will offer a pupil-centred approach to education, ensuring that each pupil's individual personality, routine, needs, and attainment needs are met. You will liaise with teachers and support staff to ensure that all triggers and behaviours are closely monitored in a safe and stimulating learning environment. You will also utilise PECs, Makaton and other communicative aids.


What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referencebale experience supporting children and young people with complex and profound needs, as well as:

  • Experience supporting SEN, specifically ASD, non-verbal and/or learning disabilities
  • Experience using PECs and/or Makaton is advantageous but not essential
  • Experience working with children and young people between the ages of 5 - 17
