SEN Teaching Assistant within an Autism Specialist School

An Autism Specialist all through school is wanting to hire an SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team permanently to start mid-November. They are seeking a compassionate, patient, and empathetic individual with a passion for supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Their ethos is dedicated to providing quality education and support to students with complex needs,


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide support and understanding for students with ASD.
  • Support students with a range of needs from PMLD to those who are high functioning.
  • Provide personal care (feeding, toileting and changing) and manual handling for pupils aged 4 to 16.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to support each student’s development.
  • Demonstrate patience and understanding in challenging situations.

Environment:
  • Class size ranges between 8 and 12 students.
  • Between 2 and 4 adults per class, depending upon the needs of pupils and their EHCPs.
  • Working day is 08:30am to 3:30pm (Fridays until 4:15pm).
  • A caring team of adults with a shared ethos of empathy to improve the lives of the students.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience working with students with ASD in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of de-escalation and calming techniques.
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
