Your New Role
As a Senior Biomedical Scientist, you will play a crucial role in the laboratory team, performing routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring accurate and timely results, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory services.

Main Responsibilities
  • Analytical Testing: Perform routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples.
  • Data Analysis: Conduct data analysis and authorisation within your professional capacity.
  • Result Review: Review and release results through the LIMS system, ensuring turnaround times for reporting results are achieved and maintained.
  • Troubleshooting: Identify abnormal or unexpected results, report back, and follow up with requesting clinicians. Troubleshoot issues with specimens or analytical equipment.
  • EQA Schemes: Run, report, and troubleshoot EQA schemes.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and run specialist lab equipment, ensuring laboratory stock control and ordering.
  • Communication: Field telephone enquiries about test results and other general lab issues, accurately record data, write reports, and share results.
  • Management: Basic management and training of junior lab staff, participating in the evaluation of new equipment and testing methods.
  • Quality Management: Participate in maintaining the Quality Management System (ISO 15189) and observe all relevant health and safety regulations. Participate in routine audits.
  • Training and Development: Contribute to staff training and development, ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.

What You’ll Need to Succeed
  • Technical Skills: Demonstrable technical skills in pathology disciplines and the use of laboratory information systems.
  • Experience: At least 3 years post HCPC registration multidisciplinary laboratory experience.
  • Education: Educated to degree level or equivalent with a degree accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), in Biological, Medical, or Health Science disciplines. Hold a relevant MSc and/or have completed an IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
  • Professional Development: Evidence of continual personal/professional development, ensuring up-to-date knowledge and working to high professional standards.
  • Analytical Techniques: Experience using a variety of analytical techniques.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, understanding of the necessity of adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ability to communicate this necessity to other team members.
  • IT Skills: Excellent IT skills and ability to use our laboratory IT system.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work under pressure, methodical approach to work, strong attention to detail, and ability to work in a team environment.
