FIRST PROMOTION to Senior Finance Business Partner - ideal role for an experienced, ACA qualified FBP

Your new company
Our client is an international advisory & accounting firm with 50,000 people in 100 countries. With 200 Partners in the UK, the UK business has seen consistent double-digit growth year-on-year (averagely 15%) which has been spread over organic growth and strategic team acquisitions. A truly global firm with a financial structure that incentivises Partners to collaborate cross-jurisdiction, the firm is more agile in its ability to respond/get a team on the ground than many of its competitors, and this too has helped fuel recent growth. Internal functions have been evolving accordingly and this has yielded a new, Senior Finance Business Partner opening.
Your new role
Reporting to the Head of FP&A, who in turn reports to the CFO, this is an ideal chance to be involved with the senior leaders of the firm. There are 4 FBPs who will report in to you and around 25% of your role will be coaching and mentoring these people. 15-20% will be strategic projects, and the remainder of your time will be running a stakeholder group of your own, in one of the larger service-lines (circa £130 mill fee income.) On this latter you'll have the support of a FBP.
A full spec is of course available, but key responsibilities include:

  • Managing a team of high-performing finance business partners. There is a finance business partner in each service line
  • Managing budget/forecast process
  • Support pricing & profitability projects
  • Managing accurate income and cost reporting
  • Finance business partnering in a large and dedicated service line with another finance business partner supporting
  • Managing key relationships with senior leaders in a dedicated service line
What you'll need to succeed
  • Your initial career background will need to have been in Audit and for at least 4 years (so your 3 training years then at least 1 year's PQE) So your qualification is likeliest to be ICAEW or ICAS.
  • Your post-qual career thus far is likely to have been in finance roles in a large/complex organisation. If some of that has included time-selling/fee-earning/professional services businesses then that is a bonus but it is by no means essential. This is now a lateral move (the client has decided to target that bit more experience) so your current title is likely to be Senior Finance Business Partner, equivalent level in Commercial Finance, or similar.
  • Up-to-date technical knowledge of UK GAAP and IFRS
  • In person, able to mentor and motivate - "arms around yet constructively critical." Able to proactively manage and guide senior stakeholders, many with strong personalities
  • The full and unrestricted right to work indefinitely in the UK
What you'll get in return
  • Professional Services is one of the most economy-proof sectors to develop your career in. A full-service firm is able to pivot and monetise whatever is happening in the economy, and the service-line you'd be supporting here doubly so.
  • Exposure to and influence with senior leaders/stakeholders in an international firm
  • Genuine team leadership and development experience
  • A competitive benefits package; discretionary bonus
