Your new company
Hays is pleased to be representing a progressive public sector organisation committed to delivering best value and continuous improvement for the communities it serves. The organisation values equality, diversity, and inclusion, and is dedicated to supporting staff to achieve their full potential. This is a pivotal role where you will help shape the financial future of the organisation and safeguard its financial reputation.

Your new role
As a Financial Accounting Manager, you will lead the strategic and operational delivery of financial and statutory accounting, treasury functions, taxation services, and financial controls. You will manage a team of four direct reports, and oversee annual accounts, treasury management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, VAT, and Common Good Funds. The role requires ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements while driving improvements that support organisational objectives. You will take responsibility for preparing and delivering statutory financial statements, managing external audit processes, and overseeing treasury management policy, cash flow, investments, and debt financing. In addition, you will provide expert technical advice to senior management and committees, build effective partnerships across the organisation, and lead continuous development of financial systems and reporting frameworks.

What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you will be a qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience in statutory accounting, treasury management, or financial management within complex organisations. Strong technical skills in financial accounting and statutory reporting are essential, along with proven leadership ability to motivate and develop teams through change. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels. Experience in managing relationships with auditors and external advisers, combined with a proactive, customer-focused approach and a commitment to continuous improvement, will be key to your success. Above all, you will demonstrate high standards of personal and professional integrity.

What you'll get in return
In return, you will receive a competitive salary along with a generous benefits package. This includes 29 days annual leave, a 35-hour working week, Monday to Friday, and a hybrid working arrangement with the majority of time spent working from home and occasional visits to the office, typically twice a month. You will join on a permanent contract with excellent opportunities for professional development and the chance to make a real impact on the financial stewardship and success of the organisation.
