Area Scheduler – Civils – Freelance

One of the UK’s leading infrastructure contractors, working across a number of sectors including; transport, highways, water, energy and telecommunications


Your new role

Area Scheduler required to join the project team. In this role, you will be responsible for efficiently programming a wide variety of highways maintenance works, managing the permit process, and scheduling repairs for safety defects. This is a key position that ensures smooth coordination between teams and timely delivery of projects.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare highways maintenance programmes in collaboration with depot supervisors and area managers.
  • Plan and coordinate works, identifying efficiency savings where possible.
  • Liaise with inspectors and local highways officers to ensure accurate work order information.
  • Create, monitor, and update street works permits to maintain compliance.
  • Communicate with delivery teams to update progress and adjust schedules.
  • Organise traffic management, advance warning signs, and letter drops.
  • Schedule work orders to mobile devices and ensure productivity while meeting contractual response times.
  • Escalate delays and collaborate across teams to optimise resources.
  • Allocate emergency works and ensure materials are ordered for scheduled jobs.
  • Maintain scheduling software and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Offer technical support for mobile solutions and provide administrative assistance when required.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong IT skills, ideally proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience in programming construction or maintenance works (highways experience preferred).

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Knowledge of the Traffic Management Act, NRSWA, and safety codes of practice.

  • Understanding of street works noticing and permitting processes.
