Hay is partnering with a local council in the Birmingham area to support a major transport infrastructure scheme. This critical role involves managing the design, mobilisation, and construction of key transport projects integral to the region. As the organisation undergoes an exciting period of change, establishing a multi-modal Delivery Directorate, this position is pivotal in striving to be a best-in-class delivery authority.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Project Delivery Managers in completing projects.
  • Manage daily deliverables from contractors under the Alliance contract, ensuring effective communication and overcoming engineering challenges.
  • Assist the Project Sponsor with engineering queries related to scope changes.
  • Verify and challenge AEs to ensure value for money.
  • Understand and manage budget changes, programme delays, and risk changes, ensuring optimal delivery.
  • Liaise with Project Delivery Managers and Programme Leads for regular project and budget updates.
  • Lead the safety culture within the construction organisation, staying informed of all safety data and occurrences.
  • Support the Resident Engineer with auditing, quality management, and control of output.
  • Oversee detailed development and construction activities of major metro infrastructure projects.
  • Provide high-quality technical input and expertise to develop and deliver multidisciplinary technical solutions for light railway systems in complex urban environments.

    About You:
  • You have a technical background in delivering light rail or civil engineering projects, including oversight of design activities, contract support, commercial strategy, and working across the construction supply chain to ensure delivery certainty. You thrive in an agile and progressive environment and are not afraid of challenges. Your focus will be on site-based activities, requiring regular construction site presence.
  • Proven technical knowledge in the oversight of design standards and best practice in detailed development and delivery of highway projects, including highway construction and urban realm, track form and alignment, signalling, OHLE, traction power and network communications.
  • Experience of working within a NEC environment or similar, including contract management and contractor engagement
  • Experience of developing and delivering technically complex engineering projects, preferably within Heavy Rail, light rail or similar environments such as major highways or civil schemes. Alternatively, you would have technical knowledge of LV & HV electrical power involving OLE or NGED substation upgrades. Previous experience as a Clerk of Works or Construction Manger
