Our client is one of the largest, most successful international multidisciplinary consultancies in the world, with offices across the UK and teams based in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Their Building Services team plays a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Residential, Blue Light, Education, Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (e.g. Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Transportation and Defence.
Their work will bring you together with both UK and international designers, on projects that range from individual buildings to city-size solutions and approaches.
Your new role
Our client is looking to appoint a mechanically biased UK Technical Director within their Building Services design team. In this role, you will lead one of their main technical capabilities delivering building services, sustainability, building performance and low carbon solutions across their multi-discipline teams of Architects and Engineers.
You will report directly to the UK Practice Director and Professional Head of Discipline and have influence over the 900+ Engineers and Architects within their national Building Design practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Setting the direction of development for projects at concept stages, followed by regular reviews with the team as the designs become fully detailed.
- Setting the quality and technical standards implemented by their teams, identifying new technologies for adoption and providing guidance for training and development initiatives - with support from regional Technical Authorities.
- Owning technical responsibility for project quality, design standards and delivery processes.
- Providing technical support to clients in a wide range of areas.
- Being knowledgeable of UK Government policy and other industry initiatives that relate to Building Services.
- Representing the company as a Subject Matter Expert on Mechanical Building Services.
- Generating good working relationships with internal and external clients and develop a client relationship management strategy.
- Taking responsibility for key client management of specific clients.
- Providing management, motivation, inspiration and technical leadership for the Building Services team engaged on projects.
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
- Chartered Engineer
- 15+ years of experience post chartership.
- Significant experience in the concepts/theories/detailed design/practicalities of Mechanical Building Services design and compliance requirements.
- Experience delivering consultancy services for private and public sector clients.
- Extensive project experience, necessitating high levels of technical competence with a strong focus and track record of the delivery of designs and processes.
- Ability to influence senior management and peers within the industry and positively challenge decisions and processes.
- Demonstrable leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire a team.
- Good commercial awareness, business management skills and results orientation.
- Customer focused with a high level of relationship management skills.
- Confident ability with good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and other company employees.
