Financial Accountant
A dynamic opportunity has arisen for a Financial Accountant to join a dedicated Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Director, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in preparing monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts, amongst other finance functions. This position is essential for maintaining an efficient, organised, and accurate finance function.
Core Duties/Responsibilities:
- Produce the monthly management accounts pack.
- Analyse Profit and Loss account variances.
- Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts.
- Prepare schedules for the annual audit.
- Support the Finance Director with budgets and forecasting.
- Prepare VAT returns.
- Collate import and export information.
- Handle compliance matters such as Plastic Packaging Tax and EPR waste packaging returns.
- Update the cash book and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
- Analyse aged raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished-goods stock to identify potential stock obsolescence.
- Liaise with internal and external customers, suppliers, auditors, and stakeholders.
- Generate and implement cost-improvement ideas.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure audit trails are kept.
- Produce reports for management.
- Contribute to improving the company’s job costing system.
- Potentially cover payroll preparation.
- Supervise and guide other finance team members.
- Perform other ad-hoc duties as needed.
- Provide cover for holiday and sickness of other finance team members when required.
Skills, Capabilities, and Attributes:
- Strong Financial Accounting experience is essential.
- Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential depending on experience.
- Strong ability to influence and articulate messages.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize a busy and varied workload.
- Problem-solver and proactive thinker.
- Ability to work efficiently and effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility and excellent attention to detail are essential.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Packages, including Excel and Word.
- Willingness to learn and a strong desire to develop and grow within the organisation.
- Enjoy working to deadlines and targets in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience building relationships and liaising with stakeholders.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Experience with accounting systems.
- Understanding of audit requirements.
- Strong data interrogation and reconciliation skills.
- Understanding of payroll and PAYE controls is desirable.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, with the ability to check own work outputs.
- Enthusiastic, committed, and flexible to the demands of a fast-paced business with significant change.
