St Helens & Warrington Long-term contract supporting SEND in mainstream schools April Start

Your new company

Hays Recruitment are proud to be working in partnership with a mainstream primary schools in the area as they are looking to recruit
motivated and reliable Teaching Assistants. These schools supports pupils from EYFS - KS4 with ASD, non-verbal and complex learning disabilities. This is a full-time temporary contract and the working hours are 8:30am - 3:30pm.

Your new role

As a teaching assistant within these schools you will be supporting pupils with complex and profound SEND on a 1:1 and small group basis. You will work alongside class teachers to offer a stimulating and engaging learning environment for all pupils and implement positive behaviour strategies including sensory play/therapy, "Now & Next", distraction, and more. As the classes within this school are extremely small, with the largest class consisting of 6 pupils, you will have the full support of the class teacher and at minimum 2 other teaching assistants. As you will be supporting complex SEN, you will closely monitor pupils' behaviours and emotional states, adapting your approach to best suit and taking them to a sensory room or out of the class to burn off steam as required. You will also be required to use Makaton and PECs.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered in your application you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as recent referenceable experience supporting children and young people with complex and profound needs, as well as:

  • Experience supporting ASD and/or non-verbal
  • Experience using PECS and Makaton is highly advantageous
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
