Senior Buyer for an Expanding Engineering Business

Job Title: Senior Buyer

Company: Manufacturing business

Location: On-site

Salary: Up to £45,000

Working Hours:

  • Monday - Thursday: 07:45 - 16:45
  • Friday: 08:00 - 12:00

Hays is partnered with a rapidly growing medium-sized manufacturing business that is expanding its Procurement & Purchasing function. As a Buyer, you will oversee the site's expenditure on goods and services, ensuring quality, high performance, and cost-saving initiatives. You will have one direct report (Buyer) and will implement the group's procurement strategy for the site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the site's spend on goods and services, ensuring quality, timely delivery, and contract compliance.
  • Oversee the end-to-end procurement process for raw materials and finished goods.
  • Align purchasing activities with the group-level procurement strategy.
  • Consolidate the supplier base to ensure a cost-effective and low-risk approach.
  • Monitor product and service costs, achieving cost reductions through supplier sourcing and contract negotiation.
  • Utilise the MRP system for all procurement activities.
  • Compile and analyse the site's monthly spend report.
  • Manage supplier relationships using KPIs, scorecards, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Conduct inventory and demand forecasting.
  • Provide line management for one Buyer.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather requirements and consult on market approaches.

Requirements:

  • Relevant experience in Direct Procurement/Purchasing, preferably in a global manufacturing setting.
  • CIPS or relevant qualifications are desirable.
  • Proficient in managing and negotiating contracts.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage and present to stakeholders.
  • Excellent supplier management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret forecasting data and relay information to the business and vendors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and MRP systems.
