ALN Teaching Assistant wanted in Cardiff!

ALN Teaching Assistant – Cardiff (Cathays)

Your new school:

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an ALN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Cardiff. This well-regarded school is committed to providing an outstanding education for all students, including those with additional learning needs (ALN). The school’s nurturing environment is ideal for those passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children. You will be joining a dedicated team who prioritise the well-being and academic success of every child, backed by a caring and accessible Senior Leadership Team.

Your new role:

This full-time, term-time role will involve working closely with pupils who have a range of additional learning needs across Years 1 to 6. You will be working alongside the class teacher to deliver targeted, individualised support to help students with ALN reach their full potential. As an ALN Teaching Assistant, you will be an essential part of the school’s efforts to create an inclusive learning environment, providing one-to-one and small group support for students with diverse needs, including ADHD, ASD, and other learning challenges.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing one-to-one or small group support to children with additional learning needs (ALN).
• Assisting in the development and implementation of tailored intervention strategies.
• Supporting the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lesson plans.
• Encouraging and fostering social, emotional, and academic development in students with ALN.
• Helping to manage classroom behaviour and ensuring a positive, supportive learning atmosphere.
• Preparing resources and supporting activities that are specifically designed for students with ALN.
• Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and parents, maintaining regular communication.

What you’ll need to succeed:

To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience working with children with additional learning needs, either in a school or similar setting. While a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 2 or 3) is desirable, we are also open to applicants with transferable skills and a strong passion for supporting children with ALN. You will need excellent interpersonal skills, patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to the diverse needs of students. A proactive approach, along with strong organisational and time management skills, is essential to supporting the learning and development of pupils.

A current DBS check is required, or you must be willing to complete one.

What you’ll get in return:

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a well-established and inclusive primary school that values professional development. The role offers a competitive daily rate starting at £80.00, with opportunities for further career progression. You will be part of a team that is passionate about creating an inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.

If you are passionate about supporting students with additional learning needs and would like to make a positive impact on their education, send us an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us on 02920 372 328. Alternatively, you can email richard.clarke@hays.com.
