ORGANISATIONAL DESIGN JOBS FAQs
Organisational design professionals can be well rewarded. An OD business partner working for a London-based organisation could earn £85,000 a year, while a head of organisational development could earn up to £140,000.
See our Salary Guide for a detailed breakdown of regional earnings and other HR positions.
For an organisational design role, you will need strong analytical skills to fully understand the internal processes and job categories of an organisation, and to identify sound areas of improvement.
Interpersonal and communication skills are also vital, as you’ll be liaising and negotiating with various stakeholders to understand the organisation’s current needs and ambitions and collaborate on best solutions.
When hiring organisational design professionals, employers will often look for an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject. This could include human resources, business management, psychology, sociology or law.
However, employers will also be interested in candidates who have experience helping to transform an organisation’s scalability, operational efficiency, workflows or other key areas. This experience can be balanced with industry accredited qualifications, such as those offered by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
The main objective of an organisational design specialist is to help identify and support important changes within an organisation, such as those relating to business processes, job classification, and technology.
This may include conducting regular business audits, negotiating with various stakeholders and participating in wider HR projects and initiatives.
