Hays releases first UK&I social impact report – delivering over £1m of social value

  • Hays releases its first UK&I Social Impact Report - showcasing the recruitment and workforce solutions leader’s actions towards social and environmental purpose and impact.
  • The report comes as Hays marks the actions that have generated over £1m in social value – validated by Social Value Portal

Continuing its dedication to social and environmental goals, Hays has released its first UK&I Social Impact Report, showcasing the positive outcomes of various initiatives on people, communities, and businesses across the UK and Ireland. For over five decades Hays has supported employability for local communities and organisations – and over the last few years has evolved the way they deliver social impact.

The report comes as Hays marks generating over £1million in social value across the UK for the financial year ending June 30th, 2024. The total has been validated by Social Value Portal – an industry leader in social value transparency and measurable impact – with Hays being the first organisation in the recruitment industry to join Social Value Portal as a member, and one of the first recruitment organisations to measure, report and have their social impact accredited in this way by a third party.

Initiatives contributing to this social value total include a key collaboration with UK charity partner, EveryYouth, with whom Hays has raised over £400,000 for since 2019, supporting nearly 300 young people into employment, education, or training pathways. Hays has also developed Project Flourish, created in collaboration with EveryYouth - a first of its kind employability programme which provides disadvantaged young people with meaningful employment, raising £153,942 in social value.

Working with the giving platform, Neighbourly, for the second year running, Hays employees contributed over 6,600 hours of volunteering during May 2024, helping to generate £116,000 in social value.  During the Hays financial year 2024, Hays colleagues delivered over 17,000 hours of volunteering time, supporting over 400 different charities and good causes across the UK & Ireland.

The report follows research released as part of the Hays Salary & Recruiting Trends guide 2025 which revealed that 85% of professionals consider an organisation's purpose to be important when evaluating a new job opportunity.

Karen Young, Director and Social & Environmental Purpose Lead, Hays UK&I, said: “Our business narrative is deeply rooted in a strong social and environmental purpose, closely intertwined with the communities we live and work in.

"Over the past year, we've made significant strides with initiatives like our 2024 Neighbourly Campaign, which engaged communities across the UK and Ireland, and Project Flourish, which is supporting employability options for disadvantaged young people. These efforts have shown our tangible social impact and environmental progress – which we are committing to reporting on annually.

“Plus - we're not stopping here! We have even bigger aspirations for what we can achieve to help more people in society and many exciting plans for the future. Doing good is good business, and a great business enables us to give more back to help those who need it the most.”
